A prestigious result for the Milanese navigator
Ambrogio Beccaria, a Milanese skipper of the boat “Allagrande Mapei”, took second place in the 48H Azimut, a force test that saw the average of over 15 knots and the validation of the new foil V3. The victory of this race, played in the Gulf of Biscay, represents a clear signal to the opponents in view of the Route du Rhum, the great transatlantic challenge that will take place in November 2026. Beccaria's performance proved not only technical skill, but also precise management of the boat in complex sea conditions. The impressive average of 15.8 knots has enshrined the full success of the new aerohydrodynamic package, which has demonstrated stability and high-level speed point.
A test bench for the new boat trim
The 48H Azimut was the first solo test bench to test the updated boat setup, equipped with the new foil V3. The test at sea confirmed the potential of the medium, laying the basis for the highlight appointment of the season: the Route du Rhum. Beccaria's victory gave confidence to the technical team, which is now preparing to face the great transatlantic challenge. The regatta of “Allagrande Mapei” had begun with a perennial shot already from the starting line, dubbing the island of Groix and then leaning towards the BXA boa, situated off the mouth of the Gironde.
Boat management was precise and strategic. Beccaria has defended with skill the second position, managing the boat through pressure changes and a sea formed. His strategy allowed to maintain the position, even when the breeze fell and Sam Goodchild, skipper of the “MACIF Santé Prévoyance”, managed to take off. The competition has shown Beccaria's ability, which has proved not to fear the comparison with the most accredited hulls of the circuit.
An experience of growth and trust. After the conclusion of the race in Lorient, at 8.35 on 19 September, Beccaria expressed satisfaction with the result obtained. “I’m really happy with this second position”, said the skipper. The departure, historically not its strength, was excellent, and the management of the test was more polished than usual. The test highlighted the effectiveness of the new foil V3, which allowed similar mediums to be maintained with such stability. Beccaria expressed enthusiasm for the potential of the vehicle and expressed confidence in the next challenge, which will be the Route du Rhum.
The test at sea has also reiterated a key: the integration of new supporting appendices works and is reliable. In view of the crucial appointment with the Route du Rhum, Ambrogio Beccaria has not only confirmed to possess the handle of the great sailor, but also a means capable of fighting arms equal to the highest step of the podium. The race of “Allagrande Mapei” saw an intense duel between Beccaria and Sam Goodchild, skipper of the “MACIF Santé Prévoyance”. For several hours, the two single boats have sailed, turning the manoeuvre into a pure speed challenge. His strategy allowed him to maintain his position, even when the breeze fell and Goodchild managed to take off. The competition has shown Beccaria's ability, which has proved not to fear the comparison with the most accredited hulls of the circuit.
