The Beneteau Gran Turismo 40 is an express cruiser of 12.53 meters available with double outboard engine Mercury Verado from 400 hp or with two 320 hp Yanmars in inboard configuration. The two versions do not only change the type of engine: fuel capacity, stern, access, maintenance and weight distribution require different checks. On board side balconies, kitchen, two sleeping areas and full bathroom, then the capitulate should be treated as a system.

The certification includes eight people in category B and ten in categories C and D. Weight, fishing and capacity must be referred to the ordered version, because engines, fuel, optional and equipment change the real displacement and behavior in the lifts.

Two propulsion architectures
The choice between outboard and inboard should be made before evaluating the accessories. The outboards free certain internal volumes but occupy the mirror and require external regging; the Yanmars transfer engines, cooling and drains inside. It is not correct to declare a universally better solution. Profile of use, maintenance available, noise, access, operational fishing and mooring mode must guide the decision, along with the specific project of the version.
Mercury outboard configuration
The published OB solution uses two Mercury Verado 400 hp. In delivery there are serial number, installation height, propellers, report, software and weight allowed on the mirror. Cables and pipes must move without crushing at all helm and with full trim. The two units require separate diagnostics, identified filters and possibility to isolate electricity and fuel of one engine without losing control of the other.
Yanmar Inboard Configuration
The IB version includes two 320 hp Yanmars. In addition to the engines, transmissions, sockets, filters, siphons, discharges, ventilation and fire systems are identified. Access must allow control of oil, belts, impellers and filters without disassembly incompatible with urgent intervention. The test shows turns, temperatures, pressure, charge and vibrations of each line; persistent differences require diagnosis, not compensation with handcuffs.
Different fuel capacity between versions
The declared capacity is 2 × 435 liters for the inboard version and 2 × 600 liters for that outboard. The doubling of the tanks must be in the scheme: connections, valves, feeds, vents and indicators must be tested individually. The autonomy comes from the consumption measured in real conditions, subtracting non-usable volume and reserve. A system of travase or compensation, if present in the specimen, must have clear instructions and protection against errors.
Carena, weight and test conditions
The naval project is attributed to Michael Peters Yacht Design. The dry weight of 8,600 kg does not automatically include any permanent load: you need to know the applied definition and get the weight of the equipped unit. Performance and consumption are not deductible from the nominal power. The test must note version, propellers, load, fuel, sea, wind and famine status; only so turns, trim and consumption become comparable with technical documentation.
Side and interlocking balconies
The lowering balconies expand the well when the boat is firm. However, they are mobile structural components: flow rate, position allowed in navigation, opening sequence and emergency conditions must be defined. We control hinges, pins, actuators, sensors, seals and jokes. The interlock must prevent involuntary maneuvers and signal an incomplete closure. Parabords, tops and furnishings must not hinder movement or load the panel unexpectedly.
Pozzetto with double sitting in L
The cockpit houses two sittings in L and a wet bar oriented towards aft. The social arrangement must be verified in navigation: hooks, closures, passages and position of occupants should not interfere with the view or access to the walls. Washer, refrigerator and kitchen require drainage, ventilation and electrical protection. Tables and backrests must be blocked in both configurations and allow extinguishing, valves and technical gavones to be reached.
Poppiera platform and layout differences
The stern changes between OB and IB: engines, platform, seats and accesses cannot be evaluated with the same design. In the outboard version, there are control areas next to the engines, points of boarding and interference when the engines are lifted. In the inboard version they count access to the machine compartment and continuity of the platform. Scaletta, tientibene and recovery of a person must remain practicable with the really ordered setup.
Plank, steering and integrated controls
The government station must concentrate motor tools, navigation, trim, rudder, winch and alarms without overloading the driver. The visibility must be tested by sitting and standing, with wet windscreen, roof and curtains in different positions. Displays and panels must be readable in the sun and adjustable in the dark. Joystick or manoeuvre aids, if ordered, do not replace the ability to govern with conventional controls in case of failure.
Electronics and connectivity Seanapps
The model is proposed with the Seanapps platform for monitoring and requesting services. Connectivity is a management aid, not an autonomous security system. The owner must know what sensors are installed, what data remains available without network, how accounts and updates are managed and how to isolate the module. Remote levels, batteries and alarms must be compared with local instruments. A notification does not replace the periodic inspection of bilge, taken at sea and plants.
Electric system and energy balance
The general board does not define a universal battery capacity, so each unit requires “as built” scheme. Critical starters, services and utilities stand out; chemical, useful capacity, fuses, battery chargers, alternators and power supply are documented. Refrigerators, kitchen, lighting, pumps, electronics and balconies actuators create different peaks. A real cycle to the anchor and a voltage drop test verify what the only number of batteries does not prove.
Solar panel and charging sources
The layout indicates the availability of an optional solar panel. Nominal power, regulator, shading, ventilation and integration with batteries must be specified. The yield varies with orientation and temperature and should not be considered constant. The controller must be protected and accessible, with sensible drive and monitoring. The panel can reduce the energy deficit during the stops, but it does not replace a consumption budget or a charging strategy.
Two hundred fifty-five litres of water
Fresh water capacity is 255 liters. Number of people, showers, kitchen and duration of the living room determine the real autonomy. Reservoir, vent, vent, autoclave, filters, boiler and indicator. The pump must not restart to closed utilities. The circuit must be able to be drained and sanitized; fittings and pipes must remain reachable. The level should be calibrated because the shape of the tank and trim can make reading not linear.
Bow cabin with bed in island
The bow area uses an island bed with storage. In a delivery check you control useful dimensions, ventilation, reading lights, sockets, locks and access to technical volumes. The bed must allow the passage without creating dangerous corners and the furnishings must remain blocked with sea formed. Condense and noise are evaluated with doors and mouthpieces in the night-use position, not only during a day trip.
Half ship convertible cap
The central area is described as a convertible space for rest, entertainment or storage. Mechanisms, kitchens and supports must work without improvised tools and without covering essential access. The height, ventilation and exit path must be tested in the bed configuration. If there are audiovisual equipment, absorption, ventilation and fixing, they must enter the electrical system. The storage must not be transformed into a mobile load.
Complete bathroom and waste circuit
The Gran Turismo 40 declares a full bathroom with shower. Expertise and delivery must identify WC, black tank, valves, vent, pump, shower drain and electrical protection. They feel tight, level and emptying. The surfaces must drain without leaving water close to furniture or wiring. Ventilation and access to siphons are essential to avoid odours and destructive maintenance. Every sea grip should be labeled and reached.
Kitchen, refrigerators and ventilation
The complete kitchen and the wet bar make 40 more than just a day boat. Each appliance must have model, voltage, power, ventilation and restraint system in the contract. Soft closing drawers still require effective sea blocks. Discharges and pipes must not run without protection next to the cables. With more active utilities, the electrical capacity and the possible AC source occurs, maintaining the margin for pumps, tools and start-up.
Accessories to specify in the contract
Foreclosure, balconies, solar panel, electronics, joystick, air conditioning, possibly configured generator, kitchen and Alpine finishes can change price, weight and maintenance. Each voice must report model, quantity, location, absorption and interfaces. The aesthetic finishes must not make less accessible paintings, tanks and pumps. The contract must separate standard equipment, package and installation of the dealer, including manuals and guarantees of each component.

Before acceptance, serials, versions, tank capacity, categories, engines and layout are compared. They try dry and in water balconies, pumps, winch, rudder, electronics, charging, kitchen, bathroom and emergency commands. Alaggio is used to inspect famine, appendices and installations. The next program coordinates engine deadlines, anodes, batteries, actuators, seals and circuits. Registries and measures are worth more than a cosmetic preparation.
Technical evaluation of Gran Turismo 40
The strong point of Gran Turismo 40 is the choice between two propulsive architectures in a layout rich in transformable spaces. This flexibility imposes discipline: version, tanks, stern, energy and accessories must coincide in all documents. We have not performed an independent test and do not attribute unmeasured speed or consumption. For a competent purchaser, the decisive verification concerns the integration and accessibility of plants, not only the number of equipment.
