When the stand-up spring tilts and the draft falls on the blanket, the defect is often reduced to an acoustic nuisance. Actually it can indicate wrong spring, pinched headset, links off axis, hard swivel or base moving. The draft could then start the manoeuvre from an unfavorable position and re-align with a tear. The diagnosis must separate rest support from the structural path of the load. Ronstan offers springs, headphones, bases and swivels with precise compatibility and quotas: identifying them avoids repairs based only on appearance.
Download the maneuver comes before touching the spring
It eliminates tension with a secure alternative configuration and prevents the use of the point. A compressed spring, a badly supported bozzello or a seemingly loose top can still move. They do not fit fingers between spires, headphones and body of the bozzello under load. The first control takes place on the exhaust system, with photographs of the location found. If the point has critical function, the restoration is evaluated by the technician or the responsible yard before returning it to service.
Fall, inclination and rotation are different symptoms
It describes what happens: the spring bends on one side, the wheel but does not tilt, the head slips, the swivel does not turn or the base rises. Each movement indicates a different interface. An articulated ring can rotate by project, while fastener in the blanket should not move. Removable references and a short loadless video help to separate parts. Calling everything “game” instead leads to tightening the base without understanding the faulty component.
The spring code is worth more than the size taken to the eye
RF318 is 21mm high and has inner diameter of 16,5; RF323 is 32mm high with diameter of 23; RF321 is conical, 40 high and 28 wide. These differences change support and clutter. A universal spiral that enters the saddle can be too low, too wide or compressed against the stamp. You search for the code in the separate or compare tables and quotas after disassembly. You do not choose the spare by straightening the deformed piece to measure it.
A stunned spring is not put into shape
Spire bent, polished or with irregular distance show that the component worked out geometry or suffered a bump. Straighten it does not restore original material, form and behaviour. The spring is replaced and preserved to understand where it touched. Before the replacement occurs the cause: too heavy stamp, unlined link, wrong headset, side obstacle or incompatible mounting. Without this analysis, the new spring will also begin to deform at the same point.
The cut headphone can hide the real contact
RF2454B is the headset dedicated to the Series 40 base; the declared material is TPV. Cuts, crushing and glossy areas reveal contacts with links, stamp or base. The head does not repair with clamps or stickers that limit the deformation. It is removed according to procedure and inspects what it covered: saddle, fixings, links and salt deposits. If the headset has been adapted from another size, the diagnosis reconstructs the correct kit instead of copying the altered shape.
The hard swivel transmits twist to the maneuver
RF78 is eye-eye, RF78B eye-fork, RF78A and RF79 fork-fork. The rotation must take place in the planned axis without impurities or abnormal play. The exhaust system moves the component slowly, looking for hard points, noise and resistance variation. It does not force with a lever and does not inject a random product that retains dirt or is incompatible. If the origin remains uncertain, the swivel is withdrawn from the service and replaced according to code, while the alignment of the chain is analyzed.
Eye and fork leave different signs
In the eye we look for polishing on one edge, ovalization and contact with the cricket. In the fork are controlled pin, hole, held and support on the cheeks. RF78B uses a 6.4 mm pin; RF79 uses one from 7.9. An almost compatible pin can introduce game or not cross the interface properly. The two ends of the swivel are documented separately. Replacing only the pin without identifying model and deemed does not constitute a verified restoration.
The base must remain still while the joint
If RF2454 or RF2455 rotates on the blanket, the system is not using the intended joint. We control signs around fasteners, support, sealing and face below. For RF2454 Ronstan indicates two screws from 5 mm to round or cylindrical head, but the support capacity depends on the structural installation. The movement is not resolved by tightening until the blanket is compressed. A transferable panel, a tilted washer or a non-planar plate require dedicated diagnosis and repair.

Guidance 0 or 90 degrees must be intentional
The RF2454 and RF2455 bases allow you to connect the link online or transversally. If the kit has been reassembled in the wrong direction, the stamp can turn bad at the top and compress the headset on one side. They compare the direction of the base, links and line of the maneuver. It is not assumed that both positions are equivalent on the boat. The correct choice is that documented and free from arrests throughout the race, not that which facilitates the insertion of the link during assembly.
Salt and dirt under the headphone change movement
The headset protects against beats but can retain deposits if the area does not drain or is not cleaned. Granules between links and base generate friction and localized signs. After documenting the state, it cleans with methods compatible with TPV, 316 steel and chrome parts. An aggressive cleaner is not used without checking its compatibility. The surface is dried and inspected. If pitting, coating loss or transferred material appear, the component is evaluated and not simply covered by the new headphone.
Acetal washers are not packing material
Series 26 and Series 30 trolley springs, also associated with Series 60, 75 and 100, are declared with acetal washers. If a washer is missing or consumed, the spring can rest differently and produce noise or rubbing. It reconstructs the correct order of the parts from the official documentation. Acetal is not replaced with a random thick metal washer. Each part of the kit is cleaned, identified and reassembled in the expected location.
The kit must correspond to padeye and bozzello series
Ronstan declares a kit for Series 60 and 75 compatible with padeye RF2433-09 and RF2429-08; RF328 is dedicated to the RF2433-10 padeye and Series 100 bozzelli. When on board the stamp was replaced without updating the spring, compatibility may have lost. Compare all codes, including padeye and links. A larger spring does not automatically correct the larger mass and can prevent full jointing. Restoration follows a declared combination or a technical project.
A heavier stamp may have started the failure
Added accessories, different crickets or a series replacement change the time the spring supports at rest. The original configuration and the one found. If the body always falls in the same direction, you control mass center, obstacles and direction of the link. A second spring is not inserted to stiffen the system: the coils can rub and the joint is reduced. The solution must support the intended component without becoming the main load path.
Noise locates a contact, does not certify the defect
A beat can come from the body on the blanket, from the consumed headset, from a pin with game or a spring jumping on the saddle. It reproduces the movement only to exhaust system and it is observed where the sound is born. temporarily isolating a surface for diagnosis does not mean leaving soft material in the final assembly. The cause is confirmed with consistent signs and inspection. Eliminating noise without restoring freedom and structure can make the problem less visible but not less real.
Corrosion is sought in covered areas
Swivel and springs are often declared in 316 stainless steel; RF2454/RF2455 bases include 316 terminals and chromed brass bodies. The interfaces under the headset and washers can remain humid and little oxygenated. You look for pitting, deposits, chrome loss and contamination without ending from the spot alone. Proper cleaning makes the surface legible; a section loss or a doubt about the articulation leads to replacement. The environmental cause is corrected with accessible drainage and maintenance.
The reassembly must return the whole race
After the changeover, the no load is moved through rotation and inclination. The spring must accompany the body, the headset should not pinch and the link should not reach a stop against the base. The top is then flowed with safe procedures in operational configurations, without applying arbitrary overloads. The shift from rest to alignment is observed. If the stamp snaps or touches an obstacle, the assembly is not finished and the geometry reopens.
The initial verification must be repeated after the first exits
Reference photographs show spring, headset, base, pins and position of the draft. After the first use, new glossy areas are sought, moving the headset, inclination and fastener movement. It does not turn inspection into a tightening routine. Any change returns the point out of service until the cause is clear. The report notes replaced codes, orientation 0/90, cleaning, possible repair of support and result of proof of freedom.
The defect is solved when the draft aligns without forcing
A new spring holding the vertical stamp is not enough. Repair is verified when rest support, swivel rotation, link inclination and base structure each perform its function. The maneuver must find the line without impurities and the headset must remain free. Identifying Ronstan codes and complying with dedicated combinations prevents an almost equal part masking failure. The result is a silent system because it is correct, not only because it is padded.
